Chief Pricing and Reserving Actuary

Max qualified as an actuary in 2015, specialising in general insurance, and brings extensive experience across reserving, capital, pricing, and portfolio management. His expertise has been shaped through work with a diverse range of insurance clients and companies across Africa and Europe. In South Africa, Max has contributed to several key initiatives, including capital modelling (first-line and validation work, including for Lloyd’s syndicates), capital model use and risk management, SAM, IFRS 17, and reserving. Internationally, Max worked in Switzerland for a German start-up insurer, supporting the launch of products across multiple European markets in both corporate actuarial and pricing roles. He also performed first-line reserving and supported capital calculations for a second-tier reinsurer on its Swiss-domiciled global business. In 2024, he joined QED Actuaries & Consultants (Pty) Ltd as Associate Director – General Insurance, a role he held until his appointment with us. Max brings a wealth of international reinsurance experience that will further strengthen and deepen our capabilities as we continue shaping the future of Santam Re and International.
